Locate a working point on the same line (often a test point on the back of the board or a series resistor).

Remove the battery for a few seconds to clear temporary software glitches that might make buttons seem unresponsive.

Solder one end of the wire to the source and the other to the non-functional button pad.

When a track is physically broken, you must bypass the damage with a "jumper"—a thin insulated copper wire.

Use isopropyl alcohol to remove oxidation from the button pads.
